DAY 1
(ARRIVAL):
Arrival
at Diemersfontein Country House between 14H00 and 16H00
Wine
tasting. Dinner.
DAY
2:
Breakfast
at 7H00
Tractor
ride at 8h00 to the foot of the original Du Toits Kloof Pass. Start hiking
at 8h30. Walk on contours with exquisite views and beautiful fynbos.
Descend on the oldest and biggest buchu and olive farms in the country
and walk past a buchu factory. Lunch at Cascade Manor. Hike through
olive groves. Olive tasting at Drakenstein Olives. (Not on weekends
– then tasting will be presented at lunch.)
Arrive at very
historic Augusta Kleinbosch guest house at 16h00. Dinner.
DAY
3:
Breakfast
at 7H30.
Walk
through fynbos and organic, herb, buchu and vine cutting farms
to Hildenbrand Estate for olive oil and wine tasting
presented by the remarkable Rennie Hildenbrand. After lunch proceed
through the vineyards of the Blouvlei farm to more tastings at wine
estates and pay an optional visit to an art gallery en route to the
following guest houses. (Bovlei Valley Retreat or 5
Mountains.) Dinner
included.
DAY 4
(DEPARTURE):
Breakfast
at 7h30. Shuttle leaves for Bain's Kloof at 8h30. Walk down fynbos
slopes to Doolhof Estate for wine tasting. Then down the Bovlei
Valley past Welvanpas (where Piet Retief lived) to historic
Nabygelegen for wine tasting, cellar tour and lunch. Then brandy
tasting at de Compagnie, a visit to a prize winning farm garden
(when worthwhile at the right time of year), walk past biggest vine
cutting farm in the southern hemisphere and 2nd oldest mission
church to Redemption Leather shop. Shuttle then provides transport
back to your cars at the starting point at Diemersfontein (16h00).
